Introduction to Building and Construction

This 648-hour advanced construction course is designed to prepare students for careers in both residential and commercial construction. Building upon foundational skills, students will develop hands-on experience in framing, roofing, drywall, flooring, interior/exterior finishes, blueprint reading, job site safety, and commercial building methods.

 

Students will work on real-world projects and gain exposure to industry tools, materials, and techniques. The course emphasizes work-readiness, problem-solving, and teamwork, making it ideal for students interested in joining a union, apprenticeship program, or pursuing entry-level employment in the skilled trades.

Enrollment Requirements:

 

  • Must be at least 18 years old prior to the start of the class
  • Valid California Driver's License/ Identification Card
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED or be co-enrolled in an HSD program.
  • Must be physically fit to climb on ladders
